National Honor Society

Induction into the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that a Pike Road High School student can receive.  The National Honor Society is one of the country's oldest and most prestigious student recognition organizations.  The purpose of this chapter shall be to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to promote worthy leadership, to stimulate a desire to render service, and to encourage the development of character in the students of Pike Road High School.  

Membership is open to students in grades 10-12.  Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, community service, character, and teacher evaluations.  Once selected, members are required to uphold these same standards.  Members are also required to participate in both individual service hours and a chaper-organized community service project.

I. Criteria for Membership:

A) Scholarship-

●  A student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5.
●  Students must maintain 80 or above in all non-AP courses on all progress reports.

●  Students must maintain 77 or above in all AP courses on all progress reports.

B) Leadership-
● Students must exhibit the initiative or desire to lead others.

C) Service-
●  Students must exhibit the initiative or desire to contribute to the world around them by participating in some activity or organization (on a strictly volunteer basis) which promotes the idea of improving the quality of life for others.
        ●  To maintain membership, students must participate in the annual chapter service project.

        ●  To maintain membership, students must complete 15 documented individual service hours per year in addition to the chapter service                 project.

D) Character-
●  Students must demonstrate on a consistent basis maturity, sensitivity, high ethical/moral values, good sportsmanship, and above all- honesty.
●  Students should be a role model for other students in his/her daily conduct and attitude.
II. Member Selection Process
  1. The chapter adviser shall obtain a master list of GPA eligible (based on previous school year) students from the guidance counselor each August to present to the Faculty Council.

  2. The Faculty Council shall issue invitations to all eligible students to attend an informational meeting about applying & pass out applicant information forms.

  3. Students shall return information forms to the chapter adviser by the specified date.

  4. The faculty shall be requested to evaluate candidates determined to be scholastically eligible after being given the list of students under consideration.

  5. The Faculty Council shall review the applicant information forms and faculty evaluations in order to determine membership.

  6. The chapter adviser shall issue notification letters to selected & non-selected applicants on behalf of the Faculty Council.

  7. Selected members are inducted in a formal ceremony.
