Robotics is a year long general elective course that teaches students about the design engineering process, and affords students the opportunity to compete in robotics competitions.  During the first semester, students will participate in BEST Robotics. As one large team, the class will design and build a functioning machine that can perform certain, specific tasks in three minutes, maintain an engineering design notebook to document their progress, create and present a marketing presentation, design and build a marketing display, and learn the basics of CAD design software and computer programming. Second semester will consist of VEX Robotics. For VEX Robotics Competitions, smaller teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students develop lifelong skills in collaboration, task commitment, leadership, communication, and more. Qualifying teams will advance to the state and national levels with the culminating tournament at the VEX Robotics World Championship which is held each April.

Students need to be enrolled in the Robotics elective to participate in competitive robotics.
